The River Runs Both Ways

09 Sep 2024

She said believe me I’ve been gone so long
Its like I’ve never been
And she was studying the label on
That empty fifth of gin

This time I’m coming home
This time I might stay
This time might be different
The river runs both ways

You’d think up north the mighty river
Would be a trickling stream
But instead it ran untethered
Breaking its banks and running free

Will our trials and tribulations be put to some use
Or are they just the rooms our life passes through

It was just above the tree line
Where it all became so clear
I am standing on that mountain
And the mountain rests in me

Water seeks scale
